The WHW Winning Notification System, Explained
ok, in my last post i began to explore what i’d do if a winner here at WHW didn’t get back to me in time to claim their prize. After having sent out the 3rd and “Final Notification”, it now seems very unlikely that the winner of WHW Week 4 will be responding any time soon. As a result, i’ve had to make some decisions on how exactly to handle this type of situation.
Note: i will be going back to edit my previous post so that it remains consistent and accurately reflects the changes to these rules.
The main edit to the rules is that:
The official limit for claiming your 1-Year Hosting package is: 7 days.
In my previous post i was saying 5 days (but thinking 7 days - i somehow got a little goofy on the math).
The winning notification process remains the same and would be something like this:
- you get an initial notification on Wednesday (day 1)
- you get a 2nd notification on Friday (day 3)
- you get a final notification on Sunday (day 5)
The only minor difference is that instead of the deadline being on Sunday (day 5), it would be on Tuesday at 11:59pm EST (day 7) - giving the winner 2 extra days to contact me. Also, and i mentioned this earlier, keep in mind that all this is just a deadline for getting in touch with me and confirming your initial contact info. You can then take as long as you want (up to 1 year) to set up your account and use your actual Web Hosting package.
The only other addition to these rules is on the issue of unclaimed prizes, and what to do when a winner doesn’t make this 7 day deadline. I mentioned some obvious choices the other day, but i’ve decided to go with the following for the sake of simplicity:
Unclaimed prizes for any given week will be considered void after the 7 day winning notification process has ended.
My reasoning: It’s a weekly draw, i gotta keep things moving here and i’m not in this to complicate my life. Also, this should allow me to build up a little surplus of hosting packages to give away in other cool and interesting ways.
It’s too bad about last week’s winner though (Week 4), i thought i was going to be able to announce the first female winner here at WHW. Oh, well.. maybe next time.
